The Rundown: An investigator is brought in to observe the wealthy and powerful and is drawn into a murder.

Investigator Elizabeth Ranseur and her colleague Arielle Wren find themselves being announced at the palatial estate of Milidreth Crane-Galdepark. As the pair walk through the opulent room, Elizabeth is watching the room and the rich and powerful people occupying it as suitors gather for the birthday celebration of Milidreth’s marriage age daughter Constance.
After mingling with the other partygoers, Elizabeth educates Arielle about the potential suitors and the complicated relationships Constance is embroiled in. As she targets some of the suitors for conversation, one of them is lured away from the party and when a scream is heard, Elizabeth and Arielle discover that their simple investigation now includes a grisly murder.
The Story: Bunn crafts an engaging and entertaining story in this first issue. It does a great job of introducing the main characters, the interpersonal conflicts as well as building elements of an intriguing world filled with monsters and more. I like the competing mysteries within the story and the progression of it lured me in as a reader and makes me want to see what happens next.
The Art: Mitten crafts some beautifully detailed and impressive art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the story and its setting immensely.
